How To Decide An Accurate Healthy Food Category?

Our physical and mental well being depends a lot on the kind of food we consume. Therefore it is important that you remain focused on including vegetables, fruits, whole grains, low fat dairy products and lean protein in your diet. Most of the people suffer from health disorders as they do not consume the right or required amount of nutrients. To satisfy the nutritional needs of our body it is important to choose an accurate food category which best suits our needs.



Vegetables should be an integral part of your diet and ideally you should include two and a half cups of vegetables in your diet daily which can be consumed raw as a snack or cooked. Orange, red and green leafy vegetables make a great choice. To make the vegetables more flavourful you can add vinegar or lemon into these, but avoid adding sodium or fat.

To function properly our body needs a variety of nutrients including fiber, vitamin A, C, and potassium. All these nutrients can be easily found in fruits like apples, bananas, and berries, thus these make an ideal addition to your diet. Around two cups of fresh fruits, which equates to four servings, should be consumed per day. These servings can be consumed in the form of fresh fruits, dried fruits, and even fruit juice. Preferably you should eat fresh fruits, as these are free from added sweeteners.
Next on the list of healthy foods are the whole grains and it is recommended that around half the amount of grains you consume should be the whole grains. As the bran in whole grains is removed through the refining process, thus whole grains are a healthier option than refined grains. Six servings should be included in your diet of whole grains, which can comprise of oatmeal, barley, whole wheat bread, and whole wheat pasta. Being high in fibre, whole grains can help to satisfy the fibre requirements of your body.

You should focus on including various sources of lean proteins in your diet, such as fish, eggs, beans, chicken breasts and tofu. These make an ideal snack as well, as you can eat protein-rich food items, like apple with peanut butter or low-fat cheese, to keep you full for a long time.

Dairy products are another food category which makes an essential part of our diet. Ideally, two or three servings of low-fat dairy products should be consumed every day. Some of the healthy choices are low-fat yogurt, reduced fat cheese or low-fat milk. As dairy products have good amount of vitamin D, potassium, calcium, and protein, these are crucial for maintaining good health.
